Xpand IT’s social responsibility mission started in 2013, and the aim was to formalise the social responsibility actions that the company had already been developing, along with the community, since 2008. The focus of the project is to support institutions that, in one way or another, are connected with the education field. Since its inception, Xpand IT has collaborated with several non-profit associations and institutional organisations, such as the Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Minho, the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo, the Casa dos Rapazes, the CrescerSer Institution and the Social Center of São João.
But this mission is much more than simply a social responsibility initiative. It is a way of supporting some children and young people, providing them with enjoyable moments, allowing some escape from the realities they live in, but also seeking to maintain their education and giving them the best tools to empower them and integrate them into the labour market. This mission is, indeed, a way of guaranteeing the future.
Our two most recent actions were carried out with the children of the CrescerSer and Casa dos Rapazes Institutions. In the Lisbon offices, we hosted children from three of the seven houses of CrescerSer (a social solidarity institution that receives babies and young boys and girls who might be in danger in their homes). In the Viana do Castelo office, we received the young boys from Casa dos Rapazes (a social solidarity institution that receives boys from 6 to 18 years who could also be in risky situations).
In the Lisbon offices, Xpand IT organised a delightful afternoon for the children of CrescerSer: boys and girls between two and the eight years old. With animation films, music, toys and drawing material, many activities allowed the children to feel at home and to spend a different day. After serving some snacks, we distributed gifts (warm boots and heating units for everyone!) In parallel, Xpand IT organised a food, clothing and hygiene goods raising activity, with the support of all employees.
In the Viana do Castelo office, we welcomed the young boys of Casa dos Rapazes, between the ages of 13 and 20. Our special guests played PlayStation and ping pong and were able to experiment with virtual reality goggles. After some snacks, a gift card was given to each youngster so they could buy whatever they wanted to. The employees were asked to bring their children into the office as well, to make the day even more special.
That was just one of many ways we aim to imprint and extend Xpand IT’s spirit and community bonds. We hope this day was as unforgettable and fun for these children and young boys as it undoubtedly was for us.
